This recognition comes as a result of the environmental success of their Enniskillen Rainwater Harvesting Project which won a Green Apple Environment Award, presented by environmentalist and actress Alexandra Bastedo at the House of Commons. Enpure’s Public Relations spokesperson Marilyn Shaw commented “We are delighted to receive this award and are so grateful to our client Northern Ireland Water who had the foresight to see the impact this solution would make on the environment.”
As a result of that success, Enpure were invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the world’s only annual work of reference on environmental best practice that is distributed to environment professionals, universities and libraries around the world by The Green Organisation.
The award judges commented:
“Like so many of the best ideas, Enpure came up with a seemingly simple solution to a problem and, as a result, the benefits are much greater than originally envisaged. During the planning stage of a replacement wastewater treatment plant, Enpure realised that the location of a break tank between the two main buildings rendered it perfect for rainwater harvesting. Now 70% of the tank contents are rainfall, with mains back-up in case of heavy use. It provides an excellent example of lateral thinking producing sustainable benefits for the environment.”
The project won a Silver Award in the Engineering category of the Green Apple Awards, and it now goes forward for further judging and the possibility of Enpure representing the UK in the Brussels-led European Business Awards for the Environment.
