There are two problems in the catchment area served by this scheme in that there is an abundance of groundwater with the inherent problem of flooding whilst at the same time a shortage of potable water in an ever increasing population.
The Thames Water Trident Alliance re-used an existing borehole on the Brixton Reservoir site to abstract ground water from the chalk aquifer and discharge it through a new pressure filtration plant and associated disinfection onto the service reservoir.
