The construction of a new sewage treatment works for Northern Ireland Water, located on reclaimed ground adjacent to Redland Lagoon near to the port of Larne.
The plant, with a capacity of PE33,000, was built on previous improvements to the sewerage network to provide the people of Larne and surrounding area with modern sewerage services significantly improving the quality of discharge to the sea ensuring compliance with the EU bathing water and urban water directive.
The visible nature of the site required a sensitive approach to planning and construction, therefore it was decided that the main process plant should be housed in a single building, blending in with the local surroundings.
