This scheme was undertaken in order to comply with the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive.
The solution was to provide a new treatment works, located at a Greenfield site between the two existing sites, to provide an effluent quality complying with SEPA standards.
This area is of particular importance for both tourists and locals alike and every effort has been made to ensure that the works complements the flow of the landscape.
In putting this scheme forward Scottish Water worked in conjunction with Scottish Natural Heritage and Fife Council Development Services to produce a landscape that complemented the surrounding environment and the Purac-Leslie Consortium has been instrumental in achieving this on behalf of the client.
