Water

The concession agreement between LAP and MUC required the Sultan Idris Shah (SIS) Water Treatment Plant to be extended to produce an increase in water production from 91 mld to 275 mld.

Raw water for the plant is provided by direct river abstraction from the Ipoh River.  The turbidity of the raw water is normally less than 80 NTU but can reach 400 NTU.

A novel approach was adopted for the extension to increase the capacity of the existing clarifiers from 15 mld/clarifier to 50 mld/clarifier by introducing Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) into the existing structures of the horizontal flow sedimentation tanks.

The DAF clarification system was designed to cope with the highly variable raw water up to 350 NTU.

The extension to the works was commissioned in stages with the 3rd and final phase completed in 1999.
