Enpure provided engineering design and commissioning services for the upgrade of the existing direct filtration plant at Mount Grant in New Zealand. A pre-treatment stage including flocculation, DAF designs and additional features were introduced.
The plant comprises 4 streams each hydraulically rated at 11 MLD with approximately 13 minutes of total flocculation time, 15 m/h DAF loading and 7% recycle rate.
The plant was successfully demonstrated over a 5 day period. In the run up to the demonstration period the plant had been running at virtually max9imum raw wate quality and the Enpure pre-tretment stage had enabled the whole plant - including the filters, to continue to operate without reducing throughput. A certificate of completion was issued on the 24th October 2000.
Raw water qualities did not exceed 100 Hz true colour and 10 NTU turbidity. The objective of the plant was to achieve a subnatant quality with true colours of <5 Hz and turbidities of < 1 NTU. These requirements were achieved.
Organics were measured indirectly using UV absorbance with the objective being to achieve a removal rate in the range of 60% to 80%. Removal rates of >84% were actually achieved.
