sonix™ - Ulu Pandan .
Energy
Increasing amounts of Waste Activated Sludge and their effect on digester performance prompted Singapore Utilities
International (SU)I on behalf of Singapore Public Utilities Board to install pre-treatment / disintegration of the WAS
fraction at the Ulu Pandan WWTW. Primary drivers for the scheme were greater gas production and solids disposal
costs.
Technology Selection
Following a competitive tendering process starting in Apr 2003 and visits to various installations from various providers in
the EU Sonico were awarded the contract in Apr 2004 to supply a turnkey sonix™ plant. Reasons cited by the client for
award were as follows:
• Simpler process, no need for controlled side stream split,
hopper & associated instrumentation.
• Lower operational manning requirements
• Operating costs.
• Track record
• Capital cost
Commissioning was completed in September 2004. Since that time the action of sonix™ has increased the gas yield by
between 20 and 35% over the control ESD.
